Very few cities in Europe can compete with Paris as a romantic destination; it is also one of the best European city destinations. No visit to Europe would be complete without a short stay in Paris; you will however, discover that more time is required to fully appreciate what it has to offer.

It is renowned for its wonderful gothic inspired buildings and street markets; plus sights like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and many other places that are havens for tourists, both home grown and international. Like most European cities, Paris is easy to get around; there is a superb underground rail system called the Metro which is efficient and easy to understand.

At almost 1,000 feet high, the Eiffel Tower is an impressive sight; there are only a few places in the city where it isn’t visible. Illuminated in the evening, it is one of the most beautiful sights in the entire city; it is possible to take organized tours which tell the story of the Tower and the history of France.

On your Paris trip ensure you add the famous Champs Elysees to your list of places to visit; if you want to see famous, designer label shops and the restaurants, this is the place. This is an ‘up-market’ area that attracts thousands of tourists each day; the exclusive five star hotels situated in this more select part of the city might be out of most visitors’ price range.

The city’s famous museum, the Louvre is huge and worth a visit if you have the time; it holds in excess of 300,000 pieces of art, which cannot possibly be seen in a single visit. Visitors on short stays in Paris could easily be overwhelmed; with the likes of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa to view in addition to some of the finest collections of art in the world. Paris has attracted world famous artists for hundreds of years; chances are that you will have the opportunity to see a number of famous paintings whilst you’re visiting.

The famous 19th century edifice built on Napoleons instructions, the Arc de Triomphe, is also in Paris; engraved with the names of generals that commanded his troops, it has become a popular photo spot for tourists visiting Paris. Although not generally well known, the Arc had an observatory installed after it was constructed to provide views of neighboring areas; it can be found in Charles de Gaulle Place at the intersection of twelve avenues including the Champs Elysees.

Of course this article can only give a small sample places to visit; there are plenty of others to keep you occupied but to make the most of your time, use one of the guided tours. A Paris Short stay vacation should only ever be considered a sample of what the city can offer; those attractions that cannot be seen will still be there the next time you visit.
